Our Products

Our Lamb

Our wether lambs are fast growing consistent performers. We aim to breed a 22kg cwt lamb at 7 months of age. Typically our lamb is finished on summer forage crops or depending on seasonal condition to feedlots for finishing. We service buyers directly on farm and processors.

Our Wool

We produce fine medium merino wool, typically 17.5micron in our younger sheep and 18 – 19 micron in our mature ewes. The wool is well nourished, low VM and staple length of typically 100mm. We shear our ewes typically in November prior to summer, and our lambs are shorn in February, nominally 60mm in length.

Surplus Ewes

We are constantly improving our ewe flock, and with above industry weaning rates we are able to put high selection pressure on our ewe flock and maintain a young flock age. Each year we sell a select line of surplus ewes and ewe lambs. Our core breeding ewes are joined to high performance merino rams forming our self replacing merino flock. The balance are joined to a composite ram to provide options for either ewes for a terminal enterprise, or alternatively straight finishing .

Flock History

Our family has been actively breeding merino sheep since the 1980’s. Originally our ewes where based off Woolaroo bloodlines and subsequently a Pooginook daughter stud. A single dohne merino cross was introduced in 2017 to add muscling and doing ability and reduce body wrinkle, with flow on hybrid vigour benefits. Subsequently all ewes are now joined to merino rams to improve our wool characteristics, whilst also increasing muscling and fat. We trialled alternative muelsing methods in 2020 and 2021 on our ewe lambs and have now ceased muelsing.

2017 Muscling Traits Introduced and Breech Modification Trials
2017
Muscling Traits Introduced

A single dohne merino cross was introduced utilising Gullendah and Koonik rams. The rams introduced a significant change in body type and increased growth rates. We also found that the dohne influence changed the grazing patterns of our ewes. The ewes started to utilise more lower quality feed, however the challenge was maintaining the white wools in our 600mm+ rainfall environment and confirmation. We ceased muelsing our wether lambs and trialled alternate breech modifications using liquid nitrogen on selected lines of our flock.
